Sustainable Development
FUTURE PERFECT - for years 10 & 11/KS4
FUTURE PERFECT is a highly interactive workshop designed to inform its audience of the importance of sustainable development and inspire them to take positive action.
Through a mixture of interactive games, debate and drama Caught In The Act will establish a definition of sustainable development and the importance of planning for future generations. The audience will think of how their actions affect those who live in developing nations, looking at the impact of climate change as well fair trade and organic movements.
In the drama we meet three 15 year olds struggling with the balance of looking out for themselves and thinking of the needs of others.
Twins, Josh and Honey, are arguing with their friend Simon about who has chosen the better fortnight's work experience, a small charity or the twin's Dad's shoe factory where he'll be paying a good hourly wage. Simon agrees to join each of them for a week.Honey is really disappointed at the charity, the work is mundane and she doesn' t feel that her presence matters. Simon, meanwhile, really likes the computer system and is getting involved. Josh is frustrated that his Dad isn't interested in the trainer designs he has been doing. Simon finds the factory work dull but he is taking his responsibility seriously. The two boys argue; Simon thinks Josh is a privileged waster, Josh thinks Simon is a hippy who doesn't understand about the importance of making money.
The three friends meet in a cafe - Josh's treat. Honey's second week at the charity has been much better, she has decided to stay on to volunteer. Simon and Josh are getting along when a sudden outburst from Honey about the lack of fair trade coffee means that the party is over...
We will demonstrate an assertiveness technique to allow the pupils to make their voices heard, encourage an understanding of collective action and ask them to commit to one piece of positive action that they will take in the future.
