Caught In The Act

Smoking Prevention

SMOKE SIGNALS - for year 4 (KS2)

SMOKE SIGNALS is an interactive workshop that uses drama sketches and games to enforce an anti smoking message, to encourage children to consider the risks associated with smoking and better equip them for making healthy decisions and asserting their views.

Chloe and two friends are eating their packed lunches together. A packet of sweet cigarettes gets them talking about unhealthy food, smoking, and "the most dangerous thing they've ever done!"

Chloe catches her 14 year old brother, Lewis, lighting a cigarette in his room. They argue until Dad, also a smoker, interrupts them. Chloe doesn't know if she should tell Dad about Lewis.

SMOKE SIGNALS covers age-appropriate factual information about the health risks associated with smoking as well as exploring risk-taking and how to ask a friend or family member to be smoke free.

"The actors were brilliant! The language and examples they used were pitched perfectly for our year 4 students. All children were engaged and interested throughout the workshop and they all thoroughly enjoyed the morning. Thank you!"

FIRST STEP - for year 7 (KS3)

FIRST STEP is an interactive workshop that uses drama sketches and games to enforce an anti smoking message, to encourage young people to consider the risks associated with smoking and better equip them for making and asserting their views.

Danny and Catherine have not gone to Maths as they decide to try a packet of cigarettes they have stolen. Joe joins them, he's a bit reluctant because he really didn't like the last lot they tried.

Austin has been doing smoking awareness at school and he tries to convince his Mum and Dad to stop smoking.

The students give him feedback on how well he did and suggest ways he might get his parents/carers to listen to him. An assertiveness technique is demonstrated.

FIRST STEP covers age-appropriate factual information about the health risks associated with smoking as well as exploring risk-taking and how to ask a friend or family member to be smoke free.
