It's Your Go

Drugs and Alcohol Education

For years 6 and 7

It's Your Go is a drama workshop about alcohol, drugs, friendship and risk-taking. The drama introduces us to a group of 11 and 12 year olds. The sketches are interspersed with challenging workshop sections when the audience are invited to improve their decision-making skills, understand their sense of responsibility, learn about some of the realities of alcohol use and consider how their friends and family influence them.

It's Your Go has been carefully designed for use with either year 6 or year 7 pupils. The session lasts approximately 90 minutes divided into three sections. Each section is led by a short piece of drama that leaves the characters in an unresolved situation. It is then up to the audience to offer suggestions to the characters who will explore the options and examine the possible consequences.

It's Wednesday morning, Alex's mum goes over the house rules with him one more time; she's coming home late and Alex will be expected to take care of himself for a few hours. Ryan, Grace and Maya have got other plans for Alex - they all fancy a PlayStation frenzy with no adults to spoil the fun. Maya is feeling a bit sad as she is moving at half term; Ryan tries to convince her that her new school is full of drugs.

The girls are bored as the boys are hogging the controls. Grace goes exploring and comes back with four bottles of alcohol she has found in Alex's big sister's room. They dare each other to drink a bottle really fast; Ryan won't though, he reckons alcohol is nasty. But he also reckons that jumping on the garage roofs will be a great end to the afternoon.

Alex and Grace are discussing whether Maya is okay and if she had to go to hospital. Alex blames Grace for making Maya drink alcohol. Ryan isn't impressed that the others ran off after Maya had fallen. Their teacher isn't impressed that the school has received a complaint about pupils on the garage roofs; she wants some answers.
