Which Way Now?
Drugs and Alcohol Education
Caught In The Act presents a series of linked drama sketches that place a group of 15 year olds in some 21st century dilemmas. Interspersing the drama with hotseating, forum theatre and information giving, Caught In The Act invites the audience to improve their decision-making skills, learn about the realities of alcohol, cannabis and amphetamine use and consider how their friends and family influence them.
NB The emphasis of the drama is on drug-use, however, a section of the workshop is given over to a discussion about unprotected and under-age sex as a consequence of using drugs and alcohol. There will be reference to emergency contraception.
Which Way Now? is targeted at years 9 and 10 students and lasts approximately 90 minutes divided into three sections. Each section is led by a short piece of drama that leaves the characters in an unresolved situation. It is then up to the audience to offer suggestions to the characters who will explore the options and examine the possible consequences.
It's Friday afternoon at school; Luther, Matt, Kelly and Cerise discuss who's going to buy the booze for tonight's party (it won't be Luther, he doesn't touch drink or drugs). Kelly's hoping that tonight might be the night for her and Matt. Luther's not going, he'd rather be with his mum who will be a bit worse for wear after a week's work.
The party's descending into chaos, people are throwing up in the garden and weeping in the front room. Everyone's been drinking and Matt has got some spliff and speed - he thinks it might improve his chances with Kelly. Cerise has stormed off and when Luther turns up he can't believe that the others let Cerise walk home on her own. He goes to look for her.
School's just finishing on Monday; the fallout from the party is really starting to show. Cerise and Kelly are still icy with each other; Matt and Kelly have barely spoken since their night of unprotected sex at the party; Luther is nursing the cuts on his face from the fight he got involved in when he was looking for Cerise. Matt reckons the only solution is to chill with some cannabis in the park, is anyone going to join him?
