Course: Performance Appraisal
Objectives
By the end of the training session participants will be able to:
- identify current strengths and weaknesses in performance management
- assess techniques to improve staff capability and maintain motivation
- understand the impact of badly handled appraisals
- recognise how diversity might influence appraisals
- deliver/receive productive appraisals with confidence
Overview
Drama sketches will demonstrate how ineffectual performance management will fail to improve staff capability or motivation. The audience will amend the characters' conduct through forum theatre and in the process be able to recognise skills that they already have, share good practice and develop a checklist of effective performance management.

The session is delivered by a skilled facilitator and comprises topical drama sketches performed by professional actors. Participants are engaged in commenting on the presented scenarios and suggesting alternative outcomes that are subsequently enacted.
Target participants
Courses for frontline staff and management are available. Suitable for groups of up to 40 delegates.
Evaluation
To help the commissioning body assess/quantify the benefit and relevance of the course to delegates' roles within the organisation, all sessions are evaluated through the use of verbal feedback and written forms. Summarised findings are then provided.
