Caught In The Act

Pineapple and Vodka

Alcohol Awareness

For year 9

This is an interactive workshop that uses drama sketches and drama games to encourage young people to consider what they know about alcohol and to consider the risks associated with using any substance that will change the way they think, feel or behave. The workshop will be lead by a team of three who will both facilitate and perform.

Pineapple and Vodka gives the students a chance to think about the issues surrounding alcohol and a chance for their voices to be heard. The facilitators feed in facts and dispel myths surrounding alcohol.

The workshop lasts for 75 minutes and is suitable for up to 60 year 9 students in mainstream and specialist settings. Written resources comprise pupil questionnaire to help identify areas of concern and where further work is necessary, and a short document detailing facts about alcohol.

Aaron and Tom meet outside the party. Tom does not want to drink because it will spoil his chances with Chrissie. Aaron manages to convince Tom that he does not stand a chance with Chrissie unless he drinks. Tom and Aaron get stuck into a bottle of vodka.

Later at the party: everyone has drunk far too much and the party is getting out of hand. Tom is feeling very ill and Aaron is embarrassed by being photographed with his trousers down. Chrissie and Tom finally kiss and they are about to go upstairs when Tom is sick on Chrissie and passes out in his own vomit. Aaron thinks this is hilarious and takes a picture. Chrissie is worried about Tom's safety, she calls an ambulance and puts Tom in the recovery position.

"Very engaging. Excellent use of drama and discussion. I particularly like the way facts were delivered. The pupils were totally engaged and would be useful for our other students when we cover alcohol as part of their drugs work."
